What is the purpose of Cellular Respiration?
Cellular Respiration is the process by which food is transformed into energy that the organism is able to use. This process is important because it allows plants to be able to use the food that they have made and perform life tasks.
Connection to Photosynthesis
The products of photosynthesis are the reactants of cellular respiration. That means that when photosynthesis has done it's job, cellular respiration takes over to turn that sugar into energy.
What Happens in Cellular Respiration?
This process takes place in the mitochondria of a cell. This is the place where all of the energy comes from. In the mitochondria, the oxygen and glucose that photosynthesis produced are transformed into ATP and carbon dioxide. The ATP that is created is used by the cell to carry out necessary life functions.
